I have just received the your Cd "Tutte le Direzioni" and I like it very much. Your original songs are very good. The last one "6 Agosto 1945" is very touching, it is good for the subject. I admire the sound of the instruments and the total musical ensemble, expecially when the play together: mandolin and violin, or mandolin and guitar. I love your intellint music arrangements. Some songs are real surprising. The prelude of “You’re the One That I Want” is incredible, very fine. You're so clever..bravi.

MSQ is no stranger to the Voorthuizen audience. Their repertoire sometimes
leads to some discussion (as it is not your typical bluegrass), but every
year they succeed in bringing us an excellent and entertaining program,
and it is never the same! This time it went from "Jumping Jack Flash" to "Video
Killed the Radio", ulminately ending in a Mexican atmosphere. Great!

Four proposals Made in Padova published during 2004 as suggested presents
for Xmas. We're talking about CDs that leave their marks: each one with
his own originality, they reflect the high professionality of the authors
that belong to the top musicians in Padova...

MIDEADNO STRING QUARTET
Guitar and mandolin arm in arm.

Mideando String Quartet is even the inventor of a new musical style (as
defined by EBMA - European Bluegrass Music Association), they've gone a
long way during the last years, both metaphorically and in concrete as demonstrated
by their last CD "Viaggio" (Velut Luna ed.). On one hand the Band has improved
the musical "weapons" driving them into a proper style, on the other hand
they've worked hard to collect shows all around Veneto and also abroad,
in line with their vision of the a.m. style. In their songs there are guitar,
mandolin and bass walking arm in arm, as well as Riccardo's voice together
with Stefano, Piero and Fabiano; they are an unique choir, real business-card
of the Band. A couple of very good lyrics (Giulio Mozzi) and a couple of
historical Covers complete this album that cannot be lost.

La Difesa del Popolo - 19 Dec. 2004

The Paladins of "new acoustic music"

When Art Song looks around, it can find everything: folk, blues, pop, jazz.
Mideando String Quartet was there in the middle of the cross: they've sensed,
looked, dared. The second album of the Padua's ensamble is a great example
of musical creativity within the schemes of a song - edges never broken
by the Band and within which it runs as a river in flood.
One example: the first song "Ombre" is an acoustic blues with mandolin's
nd guitar's inlays that echoes King Crimson's webs. It's a new mix and even
EBMA (European Bluegrass Music Ass.) defined it as "New Acoustic Music".

They're a quartet: Fabiano Guidi Colombi (acoustic and classic guitars),
Piero Lorenzetto (Bas and fretless bass), Stefano Santangelo (mandolins
and mandocello). The quartet is completed by the vocal cords of Riccardo
Targhetta (engaged also with percussions). Exactly the vocalist (a little
Pelù, a little Stratos, a little Servillo) is completing the fascinating
sound mix with his theatrical behaviour and expressive singing.

Unplugged and Acoustic often mean removal and impoverishment. MQS demonstrates
exactly the contrary: on "L'Inverno dei Coltelli" stands out a hot bass'
slap and plectrums quiver, there's a suffused but full atmosphere in the
blues "Viaggio"; "Emozione" (excellent example of perfect vocal choir) and
the bluegrass of "Poche Note" walk nearby the American Culture and West
Coast. USA and Italy meet together but everithing becomes warmer thanks
to the mediterranean fire: in this sense the use of mandolin is quite smart.

It's a culture that's still alive, and that (just to remain in Veneto) started
from Mr. Florian (Le Orme) to arrive to Mideando. But they're familiar with
the ballads of New Trolls too, crystalline ballads as "Sarà di certo il
vento"; links to Led Zeppelin III (as the ironic "Lettera d'amore ad una
Balena"), evocative songs ("Giulio") and blue ones ("Bombay"), all performed
with musical skills and feeling. The instrumental choice is in favour of
a flok/jazz beloved to japanese bands of Poseidon ("Frammenti").

Two Covers: as often happens, the revision of other authors' songs demonstrates
how an artist conceives and shapes the musical material. Mideando has chosen
a couple among the greatest rock songs, "Can't find my way home" by Steve
Winwood with the mythic band called Blind Faith and "Strange kind of woman"
by Deep Purple. The former maintains the whole charm of the ballad "on the
road", the latter becomes a smokey blues.

A first-rate band for a velvet CD, intoxicating, really successful also
in the quality of sounds. New Acoustic Music? Why not.

I did hear your Cd "Viaggio" and it is very very cool. Keep up the good work.

VIAGGIO...Mideando String Quartet - Velut Luna CVLD 095000, 2004, Italy

It's still a long way, time passes slowly, the horizon seems not to come
closer. I need a good CD that helps the time to pass: something not already
known, otherwise the risk is to sing the songs and also something quiet,
relaxing. Let's play these Mideando String Quartet, they have just released
a CD named "Viaggio", exactly what I'm doing now. They should be a band
from Veneto, proposing instrumental music, guitars, mandolins in particular,
for a well done acoustic sound. Let's play "Strange kind of woman" of the
never forgotten Deep Purple and see what happens. Not bad, ideas are good,
the song slips while it lasts, the riff is respected and at the end there
is the sound ofa thunder and the rain that alert that the CD is over. What
about the other songs? Apart from the very beautiful version of "Can't find
my way home" by Steve Winwood, all the rest is original material composed
by the band, sustained by the sound of the instruments (and you realize
that they're good in playing...) and by the voice of Riccardo Targhetta,
with a nice voice able to sustain each and every song; also the lyrics are
very good. The voice of Targhetta has, among the rest, a tone that reminds
the progressive rock of the 70's and Piero Pelù in his first phase. Even
if Mideando is a band with a low-sonic intensity, this doesn't mean that
they're not able to produce an adequate sonic power. This power is not made
of decibels but expression in writing, the ability to "read" the songs and
propose them in the most effective way. For this reason it's mandatory to
listen to "Giulio", "Bombay" (here Crosby & Nash's left the sign...) and
"Lettera d'amore ad una balena": a delicate lovely picture, original and
agressive inn the sound of acoustic guitar and mandolin. Ideas are present,
originality too, instrumental skills stay at a good level. The problem now
is to be noticed on stage because some atmospheres could be expressed in
an adequate way just playing alive.

..The day we received the Cd "Viaggio ..", the girls invited their friends over to listen to it and they made up a dance to one of the tunes. They absolutely love it and I will have to be sure to have them write to thank you for it and tell you about their dance... it is quite funny. They played it nonstop in the house that day and were really mad at me that I forgot to bring it on the trip with us because they wanted to show the dance to all the friends that we were meeting in Austria. You have some serious fans here in this house!

VIAGGIO: new record for Mideando String Quartet from Padova, that have built
a solid local fame thanks to instrumental skills. This is confirmed by the
fact that their CD has been published by "Velut Luna", a record Company
from Padova mainly dedicated to Classic Music with some deviations in the
fields of Rock or Jazz wanted by the patron Marco Lincetto, only when the
final product, other than musically is worth from the execution stand point.
"Viaggio" indeed strikes for the high technical and instrumental precision
without avoiding emotions.
...they can be considered classic rock, of which they give a billiant and
impeccable acoustic version. That's proved by the two succesful covers "Can't
find my way home" by Steve Winwood and "Strange kind of woman" by Deep Purple.
Be careful: Pub's rock is far away thousands of miles. If you would look
for valid links for Mideando's music, you should search in the most technical
acoustic songs of CSNY and, more specifically of Mr. Stephen Stills. Moreover,
roots cold be found in some acoustic productions by PFM (first phase) as
"Il banchetto" or by Banco del Mutuo Soccorso, as "Non mi rompete".
To come to a conclusion: a CD if you're looking for a craft chiesel work,
a sublime code, an embroidery, a refined lace.

Show in Piazza del Sindacato - Cadoneghe - 29 July 2004
I've had the chance to participate to a show organized by Biblioteca del
Comune di Cadoneghe where Mideando String Quartet played in Piazza del Sindacato
on July 29th, 2004. First of all congratulations for to place: a well restructured
square among the buildings, really nice and cosy, ideal for this kind of
shows. But I was talking about Mideando. I've been looking at the playbills
advertising the concert, some friends of mine warmly suggested me to participate
and, finally, each doubt's disappeared once I've visited their web site
reading about their activity. Men, what a power!! They're four incredible
musicians, each one really skilled in his own instrument. They perform thrilling
choirs "a cappella". There are very few bands that use choirs and they have
nothing less than other well known bands. Let's talk about the songs: all
melodic, never dummy lyrics and arrangements full of ideas (p.s. I'm not
the girlfriend or secret lover of any MSQ component!). They take care also
of the show and enriched it by their symphaty, you realize that they really
enjoy and that they have years of experience in their pocket. At the end
of the show I bought their CD "Viaggio" (another positive confirmation)
and I've had the chance to talk a little with them. They're very friendly
and easygoing. To conclude: if you have the chance go and see them, among
the current panorama a band like that should be in the Top Ten!!! Francy.

...I like your music very much.....

Hello,
Enjoyed seeing you at Vohringen and again at Voorthuizen...you have stolen my kids hearts, they think you are fabulous!! They love what you do with all the stage effects (candles, sounds of thunder, etc) and are telling me we now need to do the same. I had to laugh at the thought of seeing them coming out with the dark sunglasses and black t-shirts...
Mideando miniatures! Thanks for inspiring them above and beyond what the bluegrass world can offer to them. We would love to come to Italy to play, so if you ever think there would be a good place for us to perform, please keep us in mind, we only have about a year left in Europe!

Thanks again !!

European Bluegrass Band at EWOB Events

....Third place winners, the Mideando String Quartet (Italy), introduced themselves by saying they were not a bluegrass band! And truly, their rock, blues and progressive jazz influences were far more in evidence, right down to muscle-bound singer and percussionist Riccardo Targhetta, sporting a black mesh t-shirt and moves worthy of any pop group. In fact, all four sing (Stefano Santangelo - mandolin, Fabiano Guidi Colombi - guitar; Piero Lorenzetto - electric bass), and the band features powerful, grandiose vocal
harmony arrangements in its eclectic mix of original and cover tunes. But any doubts from bluegrass quarters were quickly laid to rest when Mideando ended a rock number by tearing into a raging high-speed bluegrass mandolin solo.

The top three European Bluegrass Bands each year are chosen by a jury of their peers on the basis of those indefinable achievements to which all musicians aspire, such as musical virtuosity, creativity, impact and professional presentation. Only musicians performing at the festival are allowed to vote
